Korean overtime pay calculator
Overtime 50%, night 50%, holiday hours beyond eight 100% — with overlapping hours counted properly.
Article 56 adds 50% of ordinary wage for overtime and for night work (22:00–06:00), and 100% for holiday hours beyond the eighth. The confusing case is overlap: work that is both overtime and night attracts both premiums, making it double, not one and a half. Workplaces with fewer than five regular employees are outside Article 56 entirely, so no premium applies there.

For monthly pay, divide by 209.
Article 56 applies and premiums are owed.
Beyond 40 hours a week or 8 a day. 50% premium.
Between 22:00 and 06:00. 50% premium.
The first eight hours on a holiday. 50% premium.
Holiday hours beyond the eighth. 100% premium.
The part of the overtime above falling between 22:00 and 06:00 — both premiums apply, making it double.

| Kind | Hours | Multiple | Pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overtime | 10h | ×1.5 | ₩215,310 |
| Night work | 0h | ×1.5 | ₩0 |
| Holiday, first 8h | 0h | ×1.5 | ₩0 |
| Holiday, beyond 8h | 0h | ×2 | ₩0 |
Overtime at night attracts both 0.5 premiums, making it double — not triple, because the hours are not counted twice.
A direct calculation from Article 56. Where an all-inclusive wage agreement pays less than this, the shortfall remains claimable.
Four kinds, four multipliers
Overtime 1.5×, night 1.5×, holiday hours up to eight 1.5×, holiday hours beyond eight 2×. At 14,354 an hour, 10 hours of overtime is 10 × 14,354 × 1.5 = 215,310, shown as 143,540 for the hours themselves and 71,770 of premium. Ten hours on a holiday is 8 hours at 1.5× (172,248) plus 2 hours at 2× (57,416), 229,664 in all. Each row of the table shows hours, multiplier and pay, with fractions of a won dropped.
Hours that are both overtime and night go in a separate field
Putting the same hours in full into both the overtime and night fields would make them 1.5 + 1.5 = 3×. So overlapping hours go in the overtime field only, and the same number goes in the overtime-and-night field — where only the 0.5 night premium is added, giving 2×. If 4 of 10 overtime hours fall after 22:00, entering 4 in the overlap field adds 4 × 14,354 × 0.5 = 28,708, for a total of 244,018. Night hours within regular hours, as on a night shift, go in the night field itself.
Under five employees every multiplier is 1
Choose a workplace under five and all four rows show ×1: only the hourly rate for hours worked, 0 premium, and 0 for the overlap. The page notes that no premium applies. Article 11 and the schedule to the Enforcement Decree keep workplaces with four or fewer regular employees outside Article 56. "Regular" is a monthly average head count, which can differ from the number present on a given day, and that judgement is outside this page.
What it does not do
The hourly rate should be the ordinary-wage rate, which the ordinary wage calculator produces — entering the minimum wage or salary ÷ 209 understates the result by whatever allowances belong in ordinary wage. Whether the 12-hour weekly overtime limit was exceeded, how far an all-inclusive wage agreement falls short, and whether a holiday is statutory or contractual are not covered. Hours take decimals, so 30 minutes is 0.5.
Common questions
QIs there really no premium under five employees?
There is not. Article 11(1) and the schedule to the Enforcement Decree disapply Article 56 to workplaces with four or fewer regular employees. Pay for hours worked is still owed; the 50% and 100% additions are not. Weekly holiday pay and severance do apply under five, so do not carry the exclusion across.
QWhat multiple is overtime at night?
Double. One for the hours themselves, plus 0.5 for overtime and 0.5 for night. It is not triple because the hours are not counted twice, and not 1.5 because one premium does not absorb the other.
QDoes an all-inclusive wage agreement remove the claim?
No. Where such an agreement pays less than the statutory premiums computed from actual hours, the shortfall remains claimable. Comparing this figure against the fixed allowance on a payslip is where that starts.
QAt 14,354 an hour, 10 overtime hours of which 4 are at night — how much?
Enter 10 in overtime and 4 in the overlap field. The 10 overtime hours at 1.5× are 215,310, and the 0.5× night premium on the 4 overlapping hours adds 28,708, for 244,018. The hours themselves are 143,540 and the premium 100,478. Entering 4 in the night field as well would count those hours twice.
QWhat multiple applies to 10 hours on a holiday?
1.5× up to eight hours and 2× for the two beyond. Enter 8 in the holiday field and 2 in the holiday-over-eight field. At 14,354 that is 172,248 + 57,416 = 229,664. If holiday work ran past 22:00, put those hours in the overlap field — it is labelled overtime-and-night, but all it does is add the 0.5 night premium, so the result is right. Entering them in the night field as well would count the base hours twice.
